Fund Allocation of West Bengal Disaster Management Department

According to the recommendation of the Thirteen Finance Commission, money from the State Disaster Response Fund is spent for providing relief to the Calamity hit people. Both the Central and State Governments contribute to this fund in a ratio of 75:25. In any emergency situation, the fund is subsequently sub-allotted among the districts and Director of Disaster Management for undertaking search & rescue and relief work. Other Departments concerned with this kind of work and reconstruction are allotted funds in accordance with the recommendations of the State Executive Committee.

Brief account of relief operations undertaken separately for each Calamity- Cyclone / Hailstorm / Flood/ Landslide/ Drought in the year 2012 – 13.

At the early part of the year (2012) in the months of April-May, 2012 most of the districts of the West Bengal were affected by Cyclone / Hailstorm. From June – September 2012, 16 (sixteen) districts were affected by flood .The district of Darjeeling was affected by landslide during June-September, 2012. Disaster Management Department undertook relief operation in all the affected areas providing assistance in cash and kinds. Following relief materials and fund were allotted to the District Authorities for distribution among the victims of the natural calamities.
